Actually, GM Ford and Chrysler used a similar system up to the mid 90's 
-- anything with a MAP sensor is essentially D-Jet.

Not the best mixture control, by far, but hardly just a carb 
replacement.  You can adjust the base mixture at the MAP sensor, by the 
way, but you really need a CO meter to do so.

Most of them end up set to the rich end (3% CO) for "best power" -- and 
you  end up with 12 mpg on the highway.

Unplugging the air temp sensor makes them blow black smoke and foul 
plugs -- usually they need new injector seals and manifold seals more 
than anything else.
