Check for a broken vac line to the ACC first -- up by the brake 
booster, gray with red stripe?  I'm not sure on the W126 chassis.  No 
vac supply will produce defrost only.  Typical failure is a split check 
valve.

Get a MitiVac hand pump, absolutely invaluable for diagnosing vac 
problems.

Door checks aren't bad, either for cost or replacement.  Pull the door 
panel (directions if needed, it does NOT pry off, it has hooks and must 
be lifted straight up after removing the screw at the top of the 
armrest, the trim, and the inside door latch, along with the cover at 
the latch itself.  Two screws on the front edge and one on the inner 
side, pull the pin, door stop comes right out to the rear.

Usually an e-washer clip on the retainer pin.
