The last house we built in Wisconsin was over 3,000 sf and two stories. There was no way we were dragging a vacuum around the house, so we put in a central vac system. Definitely worth every penny, for a number of reasons.
And yes, I too only had to empty the drum about once/twice a year. Nice.
