I wouldn't put another engine in it, fix the original one and it will be 
worth more.
That and the engine may well be a high compression one as compared to 
the ones that where build for the US market.
If you are going the new engine route I would suggest you find a wrecked 
SL or SLC and swap over, something like a 380 or 450 would be good.
However if you are gonna get serious make sure you check for rust, even 
with a stuffed engine 3K is pretty cheap for an 85. Would be worth at 
least 3x as much over here, even with a buggered engine.
