Easier said than done with the way you have to merge on freeways sometimes!

Already do that... I use the recommended pressures from the manual for
"sustained 100 mph+ driving" all the time.

That's a good recommendation.  When I have the car in the air twice a year
to swap winter/summer tires, I always spin each wheel by hand and compare
for drag and funny noises.  Do you think that's a suitable test?

Good idea too.  When doing the spin test as above I have noticed that the
front wheels seem to make a bit of a grumbly noise... not loud enough to be
audible when actually driving yet, but am I right in thinking that's the
first sign of bearings needing to be rebuilt or replaced?  I've never done
that job on a Benz before...
