You have to first select that you want to install windows. It then looks for an existing installation and prompts you to repair it. I've been warned that the Home Edition of XP does not let you run a Repair, XP Pro does. I've not tried it with home, so I can't say for sure.
I've run the Repair option many times on XP Pro. The results are mixed. I usually end up with a running system, but it may be damaged. It is supposed to preserve all installed applications. It may not. Sometimes everything is there and working okay, but when you go to Add/Remove Programs, nothing is listed. All uninstall info for all applications can be lost. Sometimes there is remaining weirdness that does not go away. Things like having media player start up for no reason each time you run Internet Explorer. More than once TCPIP was flaky. Uninstalling and reinstalling all network drivers might help, might not. Regardless, you lose all service packs and Windows Updates in the repair process. That alone can take many hours and several reboots to get up to date. Some applications are never the same afterwards. -Dave Walton On Jan 3, 2008 7:30 PM, LarryT <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Kaleb, > It's been a while since I tried it, but IIRC, when the XP Install window > opens, you get a choice of Installing, Repairing or Uninstalling.
