So if one of the motronic computers goes south it'll be cheap to replace?
Did the wiring harne$$ go bad on you or the next owner.
I think just about everyone on this list would prefer the maintenance/repair
cost of a CIS/E M103 over the motronic M104. A lot of indies are capable of
fixing a KE but some just don't have the equipment to handle the motronic,
this limit's your repair options.
Also I do not believe that your 89 had points, from memory MB did away with
points in the 70's and what do you mean by exposed ignition, in good shape
the KE ignition system can withstand a lot of wetness perhaps not as much as
the motronic but if the wiring loom is crumbling in the motronic you are
gonna be in trouble with moisture. Also what is different about the spark
plug boot on the motronic? This is one area where just about every petrol
powered car has an achilles heel in regards to moisture. I know some have a
cover built into the boot that shuts off the hole where the spark plug sits,
the M110 should have had that.
Nobody is disputing that the 104 has more power but the torque figures are
not quite as impressive and that's the thing about the 24 valve motor, it
really only craps on the 12v motor at higher revs and in everyday driving
you don't really get in the powerband. Sure if you are a bit of a leadfoot
then the 24v motor is better but as an everyday workhorse the 103 wins in my
opinion.
What about fuel consumption between the 2.6 and 2.8, given that the 2.8 has
electronic fuel injection it should have been a bit better on the juice.
