You are correct, not sure if that is just an observation or a value
statement. But think of it as a community of people with one major
common interest who also like to discuss other things of interest, as
you might do at a car club meet or when you sit together for a beer or
while you are working on your car together. Have some fun, learn
something about your Benz or other things, or use that key that says
"Delete" as much as you want or just ignore it altogether.

Not saying any of that in a mean way -- back some years ago when I was
part of a group of people who thought and worked a lot on what a
networked community needed to come into existence and thrive, the
immediacy and asynchronicity of "email" and discussion groups and that
internetubes thing was viewed as a necessary enabler of a community.
Not everyone would always participate, and not always in the prescribed
manner, but that was the great thing about a community. And a lot of
that stuff has evolved in very interesting (and some not so interesting)
ways. But you always have a choice to participate or not, as much or as
little as you want. And if you don't like it (or even if you do), there
is a wondrous array of alternatives for you.
