Do a rolling oil change if you want to, but.........

A friend of mine used the same theory in his 1973 Olds Omega. He owned
the car since new and he'd always change the filter & top off the oil.

At about 60,000 miles, he started the engine in his driveway and it went
knock, knock, knock, knock, knock and then it stopped. The engine was
locked up.

He pulled the dipstick & it read full. I came over that weekend and we
started to pull the engine. I unscrewed the drain plug & nothing came
out! Went back to the dip stick & it read full!

We went ahead & pulled the engine. I pulled the pan & it was full of
hard sludge, with a small depression for the end of the dip stick &
another larger depression for the oil pump pickup.

I figured the engine had been running on about one quart of oil for a
long, long time.

There's something wrong with the logic there, but I can't quite put my
finger on it. It kind of reminds me of the argument that you might as
well just pour beer into the toilet and eliminate the middleman. ;)
