i remember in the limited time i spent in the corporate world, orwellian
doublespeak was the order of the day. i never really got a feel as to
whether people actually believe the nonsense they are fed or that they are
just so terrorized that they dare not question it.

can i be a hungarian american if my mother was from slovakia? can i be a
slovak american if i don't like hockey? what about all the great slovak
hockey players in the nhl who are to this day referred to as "czech"? if i
keep asking these questions, can i get something for nothing?

i live in an insane world and i don't like it

I know that this is correct about DDT...(whatever my opinion is worth) In
fact, in Africa there's a campaign to bring it back!

The WHO has changed its stance on DDT. I think even Bill Gates' Foundation
is trying to re-instate the use of it. (wait a minute, did I just kill my
argument?)

Considering Boyd is more than a bit of a dork his wife is amazing. IIRC his
ex-wife appears on the show and is just old and dumpy and normal...

Or she was... I just did some googling but the pics I found weren't anything
stunning.

So, does Boyd have a trophy wife or, considering his fame, does she
have

When my brother lived in Virginia, he was laughing at the inept drivers
the first time it snowed. (and he was driving a Chevy LUV 2x4 with fat
tires on it, so most of them had superior equipment) His girlfriend, a
local, was aghast that he would find such a natural disaster amusing.
To him, a couple inches of snow was a normal day in February, so it
was funny to watch everybody else freak out.

Those take one of those very small no-base type push-in lamps. To
access the center vent, you need to unscrew the actuating lever from
the "roller" - it's visible inside the vent, and take the out the
screw exposed in the side when you open the glove box. The vent then
pulls out from the passenger side. Bulb is in a tiny holder on the
bottom, I seem to remember a trap door of some sort, so don't just yank.

The bulb for the headlight switch can be accessed by pulling the knob
off toward the rear, then unscrewing the bezel nut (24mm). The plate
surrounding the switch will then come off to the rear and you can
pull the little bulb holder out.

Same bulb in all of them, including the shift quadrant (I need to
replace all of mine).

The ones for the side vents are more of a PITA, you have to pull all
four little clips inward to release the vent and pull it out
rearward. You can get to the bulb holder on the driver's side if you
pull the cluster for any reason, and the one on the passenger side if
you pull the glove box. Easier that getting the vents out!

Peter

In the states, the politically correct expression is (or was, maybe I'm behind
the times) "Native American".
My grandmother, a progressive northern schoolteacher in her youth (born 1904),
always said "colored people". By 1990, she was starting to catch on to 'black',
but by then the hyphenated P.C. crap was in vogue, so she was still behind
the times. I must admit the hyphens piss me off more than they should.
What's the matter with you, isn't being American good enough for ya?

I never knew an African-American, all the African born people I know
are still citizens of some country over there. I do know a lot of Indian-
Americans, Lebanese-Americans, and even a few Pakistani-Americans, but
I figure most people would just call them Immigrants.

Mitch.

That's exactly my problem with them. Asking prices for 3-4 year old
cars with 80-100k on them look like what I might be willing to pay
for a new car.

Snow in DC is like a powerful solvent on the glue of society.
Everything falls apart, runs into everything else, and gets slippery.

For those who choose to categorize themselves with a hyphenated name, is the
reason they usually put Americian second due to their feeling it rolls off
the tongue easier, or is it by design? I would think most would want to put
the name of the country they make their home first.

Thanks Peter,

Both side vent lights are fine, as are the lights on the window lifts.
Think I'll tackle the centre vent first, then the headlight switch later.

My understanding is, when the "bulb out" warning light goes on, it means
there's a light out somewhere in the system, could be anyone. Does anyone
have a quick check list of all the lights in a W124? There may be a couple
missing that have been out since I got the car 7 or so months ago. All the
obvious ones work, other than the ones I mentioned.
