Good plan. Grandkids are great. In theory, you can spoil them for a few hours, feed them sugar stuff, then hand them back to your kid as "pay back" for past transgressions.
I enjoy sending presents to mine. Fortunately, I have a wife who is much better at picking out "kid gifts" than me, even though she has no biological link to the grandkids. I thought a John Deere ball cap was the perfect 4th birthday gift to my "yuppie" oldest granddaughter. My wife took my suggestion and then sent something more appropriate -- puzzles and stuff like that. And no, I don't wear a John Deere ball cap. I don't do hats unless it is really cold, and then I look like a lost Brit in my snap-brim wool cap. (Harley embroidered, too.)
