Smaller countries don't have the highway systems we have & they don't have a need to drive at high speeds. It's easy for them to get good performance from a smaller engine. It's all about gear ratios.
Here in the states, we want to accelerate fast around town & then we want to go 90 MPH down the interstate. And oh, we want to get 30 MPG too. It's an easy decision - just pick any 2 of the 3 following options. 1) Great city performance 2) Great highway performance 3) Good gas mileage 1+2 = larger engine = poorer economy 1+3 = smaller engine = better economy = terrible highway performance 2+3 = smaller engine = better economy = terrible city performance Some of the same Mercedes models that are sold here are sold in other countries with options 1+3. This is why you see the same bodies with smaller engine options. The difference is amazing! Over here a 2 litre is a dog. It's about the same as driving a 1.4 in Europe. My ex has a 1.4 petrol Peugeot that I bought with her. That 2.6 is no screaming hell, either. A 2 litre Euro is a rocket by comparison. I remember being in a pirate taxi in Belfast; an Audi 90 or something, and it was a 2 litre...wow did it go. No turbo either...I asked the driver because I was so impressed with the pickup speed. I shudder to think of the performance of a 5.6 Euro, especially with Euro petrol being better than NA. _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com No virus found in this incoming message.
