Marshall would remind us all that the fuel, boost, and vacuum,?systems must be 
"right" before ANY linkage adjustments are made.?? This because wider throttle 
openings would be necessary if the engine is not producing the correct power.

A 0 to 60 time under 15 seconds would be a good starting point.

Thanks, Jim.  That's what I thought, and the throttle linkage setup sounds 
like the most sensible place to start.  I think that this tranny (722.3xx?) 
also has a control cable for shift timing.  Now that spring is on its way, 
it'll be much more pleasant to crawl under there and "see" what's up.
