When I was in a Viking village (Leif Ericson's home) in southern Greenland in Summer of 1978, there was lots of green grass all around; I also saw a heavy tractor-pulled plow sitting on a crate outside the government-run store awaiting pickup by a "farmer." I was amazed to see such a plow in Greenland, but there it was; I laid my hands on it; think I have a photo of it somewhere.
There was also lots of greenery (low bushes and grass all around Sondrestrom Air Base) at the upper/inland end of Sondrestromfjord (35 miles above arctic circle) for coupla months in Summer. In late Aug, all of that greenery turned into some of the brightest Autumn colors I've ever seen - bright reds, yellows, etc. The hills around the base were beautiful with the Autumn colors till they were covered by the season's first snow (8 inches) 10 Sep; had not snowed again by the time I left 8 Feb, but the 8-inch snow was still there.
