I wonder if all this nonsense is spreading to small town banks? In '77 I got tossed in the cooler at 0400 in Fon-du-lac, WI, for doing 86 in a 25 in my TR7. I had to sit there in the klink with a drunk guy until 1100 to see the judge. My ticket was a little over $400 so I got my checkbook out. They wanted cash only. So, being 17 years old, I called my dad and he gave me the "you got yourself into this mess, now get yourself out of it" spiel. I was prepared to sit for a couple of days in the drunk tank with Mr. Plowie McPlowerton. About an hour later, they came to take me to the judge again. He said they would be willing to take my check since the president of our small town bank called him and personally vouched for my check. It seems my dad called the bank pres, our neighbor, and told him what I had done. So he made the call. I wonder if that could happen today? Indecently, when I was released to go, I had to reassemble my TR7 out back of the cop shop. It seems they were looking for contraband (which they never found...'cause I hid it too well) and they took the passenger seat out, all the stuff out of the trunk. Nice.

That time I didn't want to be printed (I think she just wanted a right thumb), I don't think the manager was in. If I'd been thinking, and the boss had been in her office, I would have just yelled "Hey, Becky!", waited for her to come out of her office and say "you need something, Mitch?" and then told the teller she didn't need my prints, the branch manager just ID'd me. That would have been priceless.
