In the red rope folder I've got full of stuff relating to my '76 450SL, I've
got R&T Volume 37, Number 7 (March 1986 - Mercedes-Benz 560SL, There's no
Substitute for Cubic Dollars); Volume 41, Number 4 (December 1989 - Bargain
Exotics, Performance and Prestige in the Used-Car Market . . . 1972-1976
Mercedes-Benz 350/450SL) - Note: This was the article that suggested that
"the underhood catalytic converters tended to cook the wiring harnesses and
vacuum lines," but I had contacted numerous shops, etc. over the 1.5 years I
looked for one of these models and no one mentioned that they'd ever seen
this problem with the '75 or '76 model year; Volume 45, Number 7 (March 1994
- 1972-1989 Mercedes-Benz 350/450/380/560 SLs, Status-symbol Bargains for
the not-so Rich and Famous).
Now if you wanna' talk about vapor lock, that's another story as I believe
most of the W107s had this problem with the big engine and not much room
under there to dissipate the heat.
