I had suggested that Kaleb might need a special socket to remove the output flange retaining nut. To replace the rear seal on my 79 300SD, I needed a 4 prong socket.? I made one fron a standard depth, 1/2" drive,?Craftsman 12 point socket, size 1 1/8 inch. By sawing away opposite pairs of flats, I ended up with 4 prongs,?about 1/4" wide, and?about 1/4" tall.? Now a days, you can probably borrow such a tool from Autozone, et al.
Is this basically what you are looking at? Of course, you can't see the nut until you remove the driveshaft.
