To sum it all up, I bought this 85 190D a while back, would not start and tranny was bad. Paid way less than normal Okie price. Anyway, when I get it home, I notice the flex disk is completely missing. Could that be the bad tranny? Would not start because the shifter came loose and would not start while in gear. Manually move shifter in park, and it fires right up. A few months later I get under it to replace the flex disk. Discovered the mounting tab for the tranny mount broken. Dont know if it broke, then caused the flex disk to go or vise versa. Anyway, replaced the rear section of the tranny, put it all back together, and now it works great. Runs great, tranny shifts great, even the suspension feels good. Its very loud because the muffler is off. Was going to put it back on but the pipe is too short because the center muffler or whatever was what was cut out. Will take it down to the muffler shop and have a piece of pipe welded in.
Anyway, on to the other problems. This car has been sitting in a field for about 5 years. It has mice in it. I have a few electrical problems because of that. First of all, many wires behind the battery tray are chewed thru. Fuse 12 and 13 I believe were blown. Once is for the central locking and something else, other is for the radio and some other things. These are the 8 amp fuses. Replaced, blew again. I went ahead and installed the next size up and so far so good. Will revisit this once I have the other issues sorted out. Now, even though I replaced the fuse for the central locking, it is still not working. I am wondering if the wires that go back to the pump run behind the battery tray area? Also, the tach is not working, neither is the oil pressure guage. It goes straight to full pressure when the key is turned on. This means either the sender is bad or the wire is cut along the way somewhere. Now, I have a set of wires (2) that runs out of a bigger bundle of wires, goes up to this 2 prong connector mounted on the side of the plastic cover for the wiper area, then the other side of the connector continues along the firewall, then down the drivers side of the engine along with the big wire for the starter. Im wondering if these wires go to the sender for the tach and/or the oil pressure sender. I know the sender for the oil pressure is 1 wire. I THINK the wire off the tach sender is 1 wire also, so that could be the 2 wires in that set. Also, there is a box behind the glove there is a box that says VDO, and erg something or other on it. I assume this has something to do with EGR, but I also wonder if it has something to do with the tach since it says VDO on it. Some of the wires going to it are chewed. Last thing I know of so far, I have FULL HEAT. Do these have a monovalve or something that when it does not get power it goes full heat? I assume the wire going to it is also probably chewed somewhere. Where is this valve located? Do the wires for it also run behind the battery area? That is the major chewed area. Looks like some slight chewing when on by the fuse box, but nothing thru the insulation as far as I can tell. Would like to pull the glove box out and see though. Im hoping I can get these wires spliced together behind the battery and if fixed everything. Anybody know if all these items have wires running thru that area? Checked under the dash and while I see evidence of mice there, nothign chewed at all. Also have mouse turds inside the car, and in the trunk. Nothing chewed up there either. Any ideas? -- Kaleb C.
