Just unpacked my junkyard 124 300D driveshaft (1987). I had them
match mark it before they pulled it apart (i hope) The u-joint end
has 2 marks cast into the yoke. The other end had one mark. Neither
end had the two lines with a > to make an arrow, as previously
described on the list. If the matchmarks are right, then the line on
the plain end lines up with the more counterclockwise mark on the
yoke, if you are facing the yoke with the splines pointing toward
you. That makes the yokes on each end line up. The junkyard marked
the nut on the spline fitting, and I forgot to transfer that line to
the shaft BEFORE i loosened the nut! OOPS! But I had lined up the
factory marks, so I used plan B.

I put a new carrier bearing and mount on this one. When I get the
other one out, I will see if it is obviously out of line. I don't
like the feel of the u-joint, but it will likely be ok for a long time.

I sure hope this works. I don't want to spend $1000 for a driveshaft
rebuild/balance for a $3000 car.
