Maybe just a lazy or busy dieselhead. I have several little problems with my car that could and should be fixed but I just have not got to them yet. If he wants to sell it, then he may have either decided not to invest any more time, effort and money in it or has been driven to that end by the malfunctions and his own inability to cope with them.
