Dear Mersenne prime hunters,
Maybe it is a stupid question but I am curious to know whether there is a
proof or conjecture about the finity or infinity of the number of Mersenne
prime numbers. Can anybody tell me about it and/or give me a good hyperlink
or article to refer to? I know about the number of all primes to be
infinite, but what about its subset of Mersenne prime? Please... we are
waiting so long for the next Mersenne prime to be found.
By the way I know about a conjecture about the finiteness of the number of
Fermat primes but this tends to be rather off topic, isn't it?
