No. The FAQ answer refers to the server knowing if a result is sneakernetted
from an off-net machine. It knows because the result transaction is sent by
Prime95 without a matching assignment closure/credit transaction.

For the client software, it doesn't matter unless you want to tell them apart on
your account report at the server, but we get better use and planning machine
statistics at the server if you name them. For example, the number of machines
in PrimeNet is understated on its main status page because of non-unique machine
ID names within accounts - the most popularly duplicatated name being the
"blank" ID.
