I guess what's happenning is that mprime checks in a single assignment after 
completing the P-1 factoring. The default config these days leaves factoring 
until the assignment reaches the top of the heap.

mprime -c only forces connection to server if prime.spl exists (there are 
unreported results!) or if there is now less work remaining than your 
specified value. If you want to force updating completion dates, run 
mprime -m & use the "manual communication" menu (item 12 I think).
