Personally, I've never been able to reproduce this.  I just
downloaded xscreensaver, compiled it, and have had lament
running for over ten minutes without a problem.  Once before
I let it run for > 24 hours and it didn't fail.  However, I've
had several other people report your problem.

I'm using Mesa 3.1 from CVS.

Is there a special option for lament that you're using?
I just ran lament directly from the command line.  Is that
the right way?
