Hi,

Hi,
I'd already suggested the same, but it never got pushed:

So I guess we can add the Tested-by from the other, for whichever gets pushed.

Your commit message seems better as it actually explains the root cause
(I just git bisected down to this commit to get my system to work again),
so lets go with yours, and add my:

    This reverts commit 6a0d036483caf87d43ebe2edd1905873446c9589.

    This commit breaks both gdm on wayland as well as gnome-shell on Xorg
    (with the modesetting driver) on my skylake desktop with 2 hdmi attached
    1920x1080 dvi-monitors.

    The symptons in both cases are both monitors showing whatever was there
    before with a mouse cursor drawn centered on the primary monitor. In the
    gnome-shell on Xorg case I can still vt-switch and after vt-switching
    back Xorg exits with an error.

    When this commit is not reverted the following errors show up in Xorg.log
    when starting X with gnome-shell: "failed to add fb -22", this error
    also triggers the exit with an error on vt-switching back.

    These errors come from the modesetting driver:

        if (drmmode->fb_id == 0) {
            ret = drmModeAddFB(drmmode->fd,
                               pScrn->virtualX, height,
                               pScrn->depth, pScrn->bitsPerPixel,
                               drmmode_bo_get_pitch(&drmmode->front_bo),
                               drmmode_bo_get_handle(&drmmode->front_bo),
                               &drmmode->fb_id);
            if (ret < 0) {
                ErrorF("failed to add fb %d\n", ret);
                return FALSE;
            }
        }
