There's multiple ways:
 - manually (or via binutils-config –linker ld.gold) set the default /usr/bin/ld
By default Arch has _hardlink_ to ld.bfd
 - export LD=ld.gold // haven't tried it
 - Add -fuse-ld=gold to the LDFLAGS (you may need a libtool patch [1])
