Not exactly -- the latest Slackware is still at 2.9.1.0.25.  That still should
be OK -- see my other mail pinning down the exact version it was fixed.

I don't know the behavior of the average glx developer, but personally, if I 
were still running Linux, I would never think of updating binutils unless the 
latest and greatest kernel required it.

That being the case, the problem might go away after 2.4 hits ;-)

You're right, but then again who would suspect binutils might be a possible 
cause of the problem?
Hopefully we could get a listing of the binutils versions from those who have 
problems, and then go from there.
