Consider the fact that the OpenGL specification says that the color buffers are
integer/fixed-point, not floating point. Therefore, floating-point color
buffers, in and of themselves, don't follow the spec to start with. I think
that gave us some leeway. We first implemented floating point colorbuffers many
years ago, long before there were any OpenGL extensions for the feature. At the
time, the people who used this feature did not want full clamping.
