Summary: Writing to a varying in fragment shader causes runtime
"implmentation error" instead of compiler error
           Product: Mesa
           Version: CVS
          Platform: x86 (IA32)
        OS/Version: Windows (All)
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: low
         Component: Mesa core
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

only a minor improvement suggestion this time.

I experimented with writing to a varying in my fragment shader. This is
explicitly forbidden in the spec, but I tried it anyway.

It causes this message at runtime:

Mesa 7.1 implementation error: bad register file in store_vector4(fp)
Please report at bugzilla.freedesktop

Now I realise I'm doing something illegal, but would it be an enhancement to
detect this at compile time as an enhancement? This is what happened when I
tried again under an ATI driver.

Thanks, Pete
