You want to run the server and the client on the same machine? (mac)
All you need to do is :
choose in the tcp/ip panel - connect via ethernet
give the machine an IP address (any)
and you are done. Start the server and point the client to 
http://IPAddress/fileName.html
If you want both internet and local IP address you need a router (IPNet router)
Or switch to Linux or both.
