Actually, while it fulfill the purposes for which it was created, it's not dead! In fact, as a graphic designer I understand the importance of using the best images availables, but even for me it's difficult to understand why dismiss a user interface because it uses the minimum common denominator between platforms: 16 colors, jagged bitmaps, and flat colors... Did I miss some features of the MC interface? I'm sure that KDE/Gnome , et al. offers 24 bits icons that could be used to spice up the "look" of MC...
