could someone comment on these bugs?

I do not think that implementing this in Firefox is all that useful currently.
With bug 40106 (multisource downloads) I can see the use, but
otherwise it seems like the only thing it
would give us is the ability to autoselect a mirror for a download, and the
webpage could do that just as well, perhaps better since it can use IP
geolocation data.

This feature request is fairly involved. First, this requires
rewriting the current
download manager. By doing a quick search for "metalink" at
http://aria2.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/aria2/trunk/src/ that gives 58
different
files. (Ok there's probably too many source files in this
implementation). That in
addition to the multipart download logic that needs to be added.

I wouldn't object to a contribution so I'll leave this issue available.
