I just wanted to say thank you & well done to everyone involved in Metalink!
2012 was a great year. we had many opportunities & accomplished a lot! we had new versions of Appupdater, aria2, curl, DownThemAll!, KGet, mulk, libmetalink, MirrorBrain, & others come out. curl was a great addition to metalink clients. the curl community is awesome & we got help with libmetalink & port specific stuff. there were new apps like mget & the GSOC projects that came out. metalink apps like aria2, curl, & libmetalink are available on Homebrew, a package manager for OS X. we participated in Google Summer of Code, which took up a good chunk of the year. we had GSOC projects with 5 awesome students from around the world & 6 great mentors, including wget with the GNU project, Metalink Downloader (Chrome extension), Apache Traffic Server metalink plugin, KGet, DTA!, and webui-aria2. Tatsuhiro & I went to the GSOC Mentor Summit at Google HQ in October. this was the first time we met, the first time I had been to any tech conference or met any open source people in person. it was great to put faces to many names like Micah & Giuseppe from wget & other projects. we joined the Software Freedom Conservancy (after 3 years in the making!), which essentially makes us a non-profit in the USA that can accept tax deductible donations. SFC was very helpful in coordinating stuff & making it easier at the Mentor Summit. http://sfconservancy.org/news/2012/nov/20/metalink-joins/ we started work on an Internet Draft for Metalink/XML Clients, Publishers, and Caches. we also have Internet Drafts for 3 new FTP commands. I hope we can accomplish much more in 2013! THANK YOU! -- (( Anthony Bryan ...
