Title: Re: [meteorite-list] Making Micromount Meteorites
Hi Frank,

Thanks very much.

This is one of the things I like about this list.  Different ways of doing the same thing and each one works for the individual collector.

I looked into those membrane boxes but I chose for stay with the 1 x 1 inch boxes with pads for several reasons.  My main concern was what to do with all the membrane boxes?  The 45 box storage case was readily available and I could not locate a similar trey in which to place the membrane boxes.  Just out of curiosity, do you store or display the membrane cases in any type of medium or simply place them on a display shelf?

Also I do sacrifice viewing the bottom of the specimen but the bottom of the box makes a nice place to put the id lable. An alternative would be to have the id label unattached, beside the (boxed) specimen bu I don't like the idea of a "loose" label sitting beside the specimen as invariably they would get mixed up, a tleast in my house they would!

The only place I could figure out to place the label on the membrane box was to place it on the side of the box using an adhesive type label, which made it cumbersome when I wanted to take the specimen out of the box.  Where do you place the id label?

Also, being the cheap person that I am, I can get 3 to 5 1 inch boxes for the cost of one membrane :-).

I'll second the kudos Walter, a great job.

I'd like to add one comment though. I used to make nice labeled display boxes for my micros but am now changing them over to the small membrane boxes. I find that it allows me to double my viewing pleasure by having both sides to enjoy as well as protecting the specimen. With a small micro, doubling the viewing area can be quite significent and rewarding ;-)
My 2 micros,
Frank

Hello Everyone,

Okay, the server problem is now resolved and I am "back in business."

As I stated yesterday, I have added a page to my site that basically shows how I go about making micromount meteorites for sale and trade.  I have received a lot of questions along these lines lately, as a result of the free Sudburys I gave away about a week ago, which is really what I had intended (interest in micromounts, that is).
