Here in Arizona we have a law that makes it a
felony to fire a gun into the air randomly.
Now I know common sense would dictate to most
intelligent people that firing a gun into the air is stupid and dangerous. The
reason we have the law is that a young girl was killed in Phoenix by a bullet
that was coming back down to earth after being fired into the air. It was a .44
caliber bullet 240 grain I believe. The news did not report the angle of entry
into the girl but it did say it entered the top of her head and stopped inside
her brain and killed her instantly. They named the law after the girl...it was
big news here some years back
My point is that a .44 mag has a muzzle velocity of
roughly 2200 feet per second and is carrying a lot of foot pounds of energy when
it is fired and loses velocity as it travels. Fired straight up it would travel
roughly a mile or more before tumbling back to earth at terminal velocity.
This girl in England was supposedly hit by a
meteorite and sustained NO damage to her foot? Come on! I am no mathmetician but
even at terminal velocity that rock would have/should have penetrated her foot.
I do not know the weight of the rock she found but traveling at terminal
velocity from even 5000 ft it SURELY would have caused some REAL damage to human
flesh even through a shoe.
It seems incredible that anyone could believe this
story. What is worse is that someone would report this story.
Life must be rather boring in her part of the
world. It is also sad that the media would think so little of the general
population there to think they would be gullible enough to believe such a
story.
Just my opinion on this story and meant disrespect
to only the media.
