Dear List, I was asked by a list member if I felt these offerings were real.
We tested some of this material for Habbibi almost a year ago. The $30,000.00 eucrite he is selling is very interesting. He used the term "milted" meaning melted which is a good term to describe this HED meteorite. Some of the glassy melted areas are more than a centimeter across. This is a very odd and beautiful eucrite. I would be happy with a complete slice of this one if somebody else is willing to purchase the main mass. The R-chondrite he is selling is different from NWA 800 and 978 as I have seen a small sample in the lab. He said it came from Ouzina which I have no reason to doubt since its chondrules look just like the Ouzina R4 that was for sell a couple years back. As for the Martian I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this piece since he was the second dealer in contact with the nomadic group who discovered NWA 1068/1110 and provided us with a few samples for certification. It looks from the image on eBay to be the real McCoy. Even though I have my differences, in all fairness, these offerings look genuine. I would say that these are legitimate specimens at good prices, especially the CR2 at $10.00 a gram and everybody accused Bessey of dumping at $23.50 a gram. Some of you may think I am crazy by not taking this opportunity to degrade a perceived competitors auctions but I would rather error on the side of honesty than cut down what I believe to be, this time, reasonable offerings.
