Dear Tom, list;
The make up of mill balls is considerable. They probably have nickel in them. They have a number of hardening and toughening metals in them to make them durable, hard, and tough/resistant to wear/abrasion. Try cutting one on a diamond saw some time. They have the same tenacity as a blade on a motor grader... or dozer blade wear plates...which are high in nickel and nickel hard facing.
Best,
Dave F.

Hello List, Last year at tucson I showed a few possible iron meteorites to a few meteorite collectors. They all seemed to think one was a mill ball and kinda "liked" the other one. Well one year later, I finely got a nickel test kit. The one people thought was a mill ball came up a real light pink. : ( the one people "liked" came up a dark straw berry red. From what I know, that is a good sign. What's the next step? Are the chances good its a meteorite?

Thanks, Tom
