Hi Count and the List, Obvious Vesicles and Conchoidal fractures and a vitreous overall appearance - makes this a very unlikely candidate for re-entered space junk. Also the line "most of MIR re-entered over the Indian Ocean, but this piece made it to the USA" - very fishy.
I think this is in the category of cool rock, but very unlikely to be space junk, let alone specifically part of the MIR space station.
