Hello,

I am proud to announce a new french meteorite. It have been found in late july
by a geologist, looking for fossils with his wife, not so far from the town I
live (Besançon), and about 20km of Ornans. After the famous 1868 fall, this is
the second meteorite from Franche-Comté region.

The stone was lying on the side of a small road of the Abbans-Dessous village
(exact coordinates47.13171N ; 5.87560E). Looks very fresh, and is only 3.123g.
The finder asked me an expertise in early august, and even if was obviously a
meteorite, I was worried about the possibility of a "fell from the pocket"
stone, even if the finder was a very trustfull guy.

He accepted to send the meteorite to CEREGE early september, for non
destructive tests (thanks to Jérôme Gattacceca !). The first investigations we
recieved last week indicate a LL type, and confirmed it was not a "bad joke".
Further investigations are planed.

We only hunt few days this summer with Marie and a friend well-known here (but
without certitudes...), but no more finds.
