NoNoNo I dont want to destroy anything! :) I have here a small slice of Seymachan, I dont know why but it rusts. The rust rise between the olivines and the iron matrix. So some olivines fell down. I want to put the olivines back in them slots and put some little drops of glue. But also on the olivines theres rust and some iron particles, so they are a little bit bigger than the slots! I want to put just the olivine inside the acid for remove the rust and restore the original dimension.
Do you think the Iron chloride could also work (for electronic purposes)? I have also here Phosphoric acid 12% and pure Citric acid, could I use some of them? Thanks to all for the answers! <x>x<x>x<x> Francesco Da: Meteorite-list [mailto:meteorite-list-boun...@meteoritecentral.com] Per conto di CRAIG MOODY via Meteorite-list Inviato: martedì 20 settembre 2016 17:49 A: Met-List <meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com> Oggetto: Re: [meteorite-list] acid for pallasite The very thought of it makes me cringe. The chances of getting crystals worthy of gem-stones, is slim. IMHO it would be sacrilege to destroy one of the most beautiful meteorite types, for a few gems and a little cash. If there is rust between the olivines and iron, you will likely have to use an electrolytic process. KD Meteorites are the experts in doing this. If it is just a little bit of rust, then relish and then etch with Nital. Wich kind of acid I can use for dissolve the iron/rust in a Pallasite, so I can save the Olivine?
