METEOR EXPLODES AT SEA

Gives Passengers on Steamship a Bad Fright

Boston, April 14. A meteor which passed over the vessel and exploded only a short distance alarmed passengers on the Leyland liner Bohemia, which arrived here from Liverpool, after towing the disabled British steamer Cayo Romano to Hallfax.

The meteor appeared on the steamer's port side in a heavy hailstorm and crossed her bow at great speed. It exploded with a deafening report and blinding glare when apparently about forty feet from the surface of the ocean.

Passengers said that they had difficulty in hearing for about ten minutes afterward. The lookout in the crew's nest on the foremast was frightened, as it seamed to him that the meteor passed very near. When the explosion occurred the flash lighted all parts of the steamer.
