All,

Scott’s posting of his spectacular Chelyabinsk specimen, as today’s MPOD,
spurred this post of mine.

The Paragould, Arkansas meteorite is an LL5, and fell on Feb 17th (1930) and
Chelyabinsk is also an LL5 and fell on Feb 15th (2013).
So, 2 large, RELATIVELY rare class LL5’s fell 2 days apart from each other in
the month of Feb (and 83 years apart.)

Has anyone ever read anything about these 2 falls possibly being from the same
orbital stream of meteoroids, or are their orbits completely unrelated, and
it’s just a coincidence that they are the same type and both fell close to the
same date in the same month?

Thanks,
Robert Woolard
