Hello Al and list,

does a meteorite belong to the property that it impacted on or where it
bounced to?"


It appears the city first thought....it hit the street, the meteorites are ours. But then if it claimed the meteorites, it had to claim all the damage the meteorites did. The city quickly rethought its position.


In the link I sent the other day. (http://www.meteoritearticles.com/pfwinslowcrater.html), second photo, which was taken shortly after the fall by Steve Arnold (IMB), note the yellow ribbon for the Iraq war on the tree, you can see the spot of impact on the street and the photo is pretty much lined up right so that the meteorite will hit the porch....about six feet in the air.

The crater was removed by Dale, the husband. Photos of the removal can be found here:
