Dear list members,
I would like to announce another selection of "Best Offer Takes It". In other words, I have four meteorites that I will offer to "list members only" in a silent auction. It will commence once this message posts and will end on Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time -Florida, USA).
I will accept single offers or upgraded offers throughout the time frame and will not post publicly or privately any of the offers. I will also keep the winning bidder confidential. If the winning bidder wants to announce their cool new acquisition(s), that is up to them.
Are you ready? Here are the four selections, three being awesome, one I just want to quit tripping over ;-) There are several pictures of each collaged into a single picture so it may take a little while to load, but well worth the wait:
Offering #1:
69.9 gram Oriented unclassified Saharan chondrite, 90% Black fusion crust with solid frothing on trailing end. This is a nice fresh stone, the photo makes it look grayish. To see, click here: http://www.lunarrock.com/3-3/oriented.jpg
Offering #2:
679 gram MUSEUM QUALITY unclassified Saharan chondrite (probably "L" and NOT paired to 869) with a HUGE Metal Nodule popping out of the edge. The nodule measures 1" (25mm) across and is just bizarre! I was going to polish and etch the nodule but decided I should leave it in its natural state. Several people saw it during the Tucson Show and offered to "Buy it Now". Now is your chance. Offering #3:
6644 gram MUSEUM QUALITY Brecciated chondrite with inclusions protruding from all sides! This has not been classified but I did break off a small fragment and polished it to reveal that it is an "H" chondrite as can be seen in the inset picture. The neat thing about this is that the large inclusions are packed full of even more metal as they draw a magnet stronger than the matrix. The largest inclusion measures 2 3/8" (60mm) x 1" (25mm) and the rest range from small to medium. The stone stands 6 1/2" (165mm) tall x 8" (203mm) wide x 7 1/2" (190mm) deep and is a Pyramid shape with one of the four sides displaying a dark brown crust, the other three have been sandblasted over time to reveal the more durable metal-rich inclusions. Offering #4:
4745 gram unclassified chondrite (most likely an "H"). Like many other unclassified chondrites I have from several trips to the Sahara, this one is uncut but I polished a small window on one side (hard to see in lower picture). This has a very small amount of original crust and the rest shows the sandblasting affects the Saharan winds have on meteorites like the large breccia above. Remember, if I like the highest offer, I will accept it and these items will no longer be available so make sure you place the highest bid you are comfortable with.
I reserve the right to refuse any offer for any reason. If the highest offer does not match my expectations, I may put the item(s) on eBay after I notify the highest bidder(s) to see if we can work something out.
I will email the person with the highest acceptable offer and make payment and shipping arrangements after the deadline has been reached.
Please keep in mind that all of these specimens look much better in person as it is very difficult to get actual colors at times.
