Hi, All, The delayed data download of images and data from the Messenger flyby of Mercury has apparently begun. The first (small) image has been posted at the Messenger Gallery: http://messenger.jhuapl.edu/gallery/sciencePhotos/
I imagine it will take some days before we have a variety of good sized images with the contrast balanced out and all the other processing the raw data needs. Everything you ever wanted to know about the spacecraft is in the complete Messenger Press Kit, which is available for download from the Messenger site. This is a really snazzy 43-page color Press Kit, very well done, and you don't need Press credentials, or one of those fedora hats with a Press card in the hatband, to get a copy of it: http://messenger.jhuapl.edu/news_room/MercuryFlyby1PressKitFINAL_1_10_08.pdf It's worth looking through.
