I can't understand why you think this is a horrible end for a meteorite.
You can see the 3 dimensional Widmanstatten perfect and the shape of the troilite inclusions, better than in any 2D slice. No materiel was wasted in getting the cube shape, other than normal saw and grind waste, It was a large long brick, after removing several slices it's a cube.
I think the Karl's did a great job. I'll post more later this week.
