Greg, You are correct the exterior of a meteorite certainly doesn't always tell whether a meteorite is truly fresh or not. That is why I said in my original post it "Looks" fresh and not that it "was" fresh.
Dolores Hill (UofA) contacted me and it looks as if she may have some non destructive tests that can tell us more. So far I have done nothing to it, not even a window to peek inside.
