Hello Listers,

Here is a copy of a transcript from the National Weather Service chatroom this
evening about the fireball sighting.

(10:08:10 PM) nwsdvn-05: fireball observed a little bit ago just to the north
of the office
(10:10:08 PM) KCRG Justin Gehrts: phones ringing off the hook here about it
(10:13:03 PM) KWWL Mark Schnackenberg: DItto
(10:13:38 PM) WHBF Ted McInerney: same here in rock island!
(10:16:39 PM) WHBF Ted McInerney: meteorite?
(10:16:47 PM) nwsdvn-05: very bright fireball
(10:17:57 PM) KWWL Mark Schnackenberg: from the North West.
(10:21:49 PM) KGAN Mace Michaels: Yeah same here as well. One of our producers
outside came in and asked me about it. Pretty bright in the Northern sky
(10:26:31 PM) nwsmkx-short: Many calls to NWS offices as far west as Des Moines
and Davenport about the fireball/meteorite/space debris(???). The La Crosse
office said one caller reported a “boom” as it passed through. Could possibly
be a sonic boom as it entered the atmosphere. County sheriff’s deputies from as
far north as Portage and Winnebago counties down through Milwaukee and Rock
counties have received many reports of a fireball.
(10:31:35 PM) nwsmkx-short: it looks as though the Pleasant Hill office outside
of Kansas City is also getting reports of a fireball as well. This thing was
visible across a large part of the region.

In addtion to the trascript, at 10:04pm a live doppler radar at 13 WREX News
station may have picked up on the fireball over Southwestern Wisconsin. Here is
a link to the doppler radar in question....
