Aside from the political overtones of his post, I think Michael's point
is palpable. It's happened countless times in the past, human need
transformed into greed. Draw a line and it will eventually be erased if
given enough time.
Everything is dynamic, including borders, fences, and arbitrary lines in
the sand. Empires rise and fall over time. Time and knowledge are the
deciding factors, not political affiliation or moral dogma. A video-map
of all the world's empires from the beginning of time until now would
look similar to diseases spreading and receding across the landscape of
our planet. The world at night from space appears similar to a petri
dish growing with blotches and bands of a human life which stretch for
hundreds and thousands of miles. The Earth when viewed from space is
simply another little spec among trillions upon trillions of specs in
this vast galaxy. The universe cannot fathom us, much less us the universe.
The idea that we charge money for energy which is free in the universe
is laughable or sad, I can't figure out which. One day it will be free.
The idea that someone should have to pay massive amounts money to save
themselves or a loved one, or repair an injury, disease, or cancer, is
ridiculously wrong.
Since we're talking about mothers here, I'll share a personal family
experience. My mother has suffered and survived 2 massive strokes and a
third mild stroke in between over the past 10 years. She's had multiple
heart attacks, and open heart surgery to install a stint which kept her
alive, but possibly caused the second massive stroke. The second "big
stroke" put her in the hospital for 5-6 months! While in the hospital
she contracted a necrotizing bacterial infection. For those that don't
know what that is, it eats flesh. This compounded the problem of the
stroke, infection and kidney failure, and many other health problems she
had while in the hospital. During this whole ordeal I was unable to see
her but ONCE while she was in the hospital since my family is in
Florida, and I live in California. We almost lost her many times, and I
dreaded that phone call in the middle of the night. The guilt for not
being able to be with my family during this hard time because of MONEY
made me seriously resent it. The medical bill for the almost 6 month
hospital stay was close to $1 Million dollars! (not sure of the exact
amount) I'm thankful for the hospital saving my mothers life, multiple
times during this ordeal. The hospital wrote off the expense... I'm not
sure how they could absorb a $1 Million expense but they did, and my
family didn't have to pay it back. We were scared they would take the
house, the cars and everything we own. There's no way an average family
can pay those kinds of medical bills...
The point is medical care has gotten so ridiculously expensive to the
point almost no one can afford it. This is backwards. We're doing it
wrong. Medical care should be free and your health natural. If you're
with a friend and he or she gets a scrape on the knee you'll give them a
band-aid.
Are you going to send them a bill later for using your band-aids,
alcohol swabs, or aspirin?
No, that would be silly wouldn't it...?

The main point is to do everything possible to avoid getting bitten or stung
by
some poisonous creature because treatment may not be readily available.
