As far as the prototypes go: If the data comes from a B/P, The prototypes should not be a problem, you can expect cross sectional data that you can loft to machine.
If the data comes from a solid model you can expect multiple surfaces, and would need a multi surface package, or a strong desire to succeed, with a lot of time projecting your own cross sections. The Form dies are going to get deep quickly Due to material spring back you will need to locally modify the surface(s) to account for this. The B/P will define things like stacking axis displacement and angular requirements and overall tolerance, These dies can take a number of iterations to dial them in, so stay on top of your data, you will need to use it again from where you last left off. -----Original Message----- From: Zsiros, Pete [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 28, 2000 8:53 AM To: 'Joe Geraci' Subject: RE: [mfg-smartcam] airfoil It looks like I will have to program some turbine blade prototypes, and later machine the dies for them (after possible alterations) Pete ---------- From: Joe Geraci [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 28, 2000 8:51 AM To: 'Zsiros, Pete' Cc: 'Smartcam' Subject: RE: [mfg-smartcam] airfoil Pete, You need to be more specific as to what type of airfoils. For example are you going to be machining airfoils directly or making dies to form them ? Forgive my ignorance, but what are airfoils? I mean I know they are basically prop or turbine blades, and vanes. However, I am unsure as to what the big deal is. A company I program for wants me to program some for them, and I have not done it before. Does anyone out there program airfoils with SmartCam? Can you shoot me some sample files, so I might get the idea? Any help, pointers, or warnings will be greatly appreciated. Is SmartCam the right tool for it? Must I have Freeform?
